Carla Burkitt is a full-time athlete in karate and has recently moved back to St Albans after a period of time spent in a residential Team GB Karate programme based in Manchester, alongside GB Taekwondo. She is the current number 1 ranked Great British Athlete and one of only four athletes in Britain to be targeted as a hope to qualify for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
Whilst in Manchester, her and other members of the team practised hot yoga, on which she says… “We all found it helped massively to our performance and injury rates…Hot Yoga, I have found, helps massively not only with my flexibility which is vital in a martial art, but also for injury prevention.”
This injury prevention is key for Carla if she is to successfully attend the monthly qualifying tournaments all around the world in order to acquire ranking points for the Olympics. She says, “there are a number of factors which contribute to success at these championships, and requires a team of people and professionals to help the process.”
We are very happy to be part of this effort and look forward to seeing Carla practice at our studios! Wishing her the best of luck in her upcoming tournaments!
