About This Page

Are you new to hot yoga, but not sure what your first steps should be? This page gives you an introduction, explains the benefits and what you can expect from your first class at Feel Hot Yoga. If you have any questions you can always get in touch with us at the studio or via email at [email protected]

What is Hot Yoga?

Hot yoga is a sequence of poses with a focus on the breathe that takes place in a heated studio. The heat allows the body to stretch and compress more deeply. It is low impact and minimises the risk of injury. It’s a great cardiovascular workout as the heart, lungs and circulatory system need to work harder. The heat also leads to sweating which gives the added benefit of a detox.

How do I book?

To book your first class you will need to create an account with us.

What are the benefits?

  • A great workout for the whole body and mind
  • Great if you have any injuries
  • Develop greater flexibility and strength
  • Relieves tension and a great source of energy

What should I bring?

You will need to be dressed to move freely. Women tend to wear leggings or capri shorts and a sports top. Men tend to wear shorts and a t-shirt. Bring two towels – one for putting on your mat in the studio and one for the shower. You will need a yoga mat and water as well. You will sweat a lot during most classes so these are essential. These items can usually be bought or hired at the studio if you don’t have them.

Which class should I attend?

There’s a number of different types of class to choose from at Feel – tak a look at the Classes tab at the top of the website to see descriptions of all the different classes.

The intro offer is a great way to try out different classes and different teachers!

Your first visit

Hydrate

Having a drink before and after class is important. But regular sips of water work far better than downing a whole bottle! Aim to drink a little and often throughout the day – aim for a couple of litres.

Arrive early

Get to the studio 15 minutes before your first class. This will give you a chance to meet the teacher, have a look around and make sure that everything is organised.

If you arrive later it may not be possible for you to join that class.

Wear appropriate clothing

Wear clothes you can move freely in.
You will sweat! Women often wear leggings or capri shorts and a sports top. Men wear shorts and sometimes a t-shirt (based on your preference).

During the class

The teacher will guide you. Aim to stay in the class but if you need to come out for a moment let the teacher know quietly. Your body may need some time on your first visit to adjust to the heat.

In yoga we focus on the breathe. Its an important part of yoga and one many of us spend years trying to get better at.

At the end of the class enjoy the savasana, it’s a chance to let go and enjoy the last few minutes.

After the class

Make sure you re-hydrate, potentially something with electrolytes too. Please do ask the teacher or our Front of House team any questions you may have.

They can also book you in for another class. You’ll be amazed at the progress you make if you practise regularly.
